Once a motion graphic designer
Ever since I was a kid I love arts & design very much. The talent born within is gifted by the GIVER of the gift. I would gaze at the painter’s brush or an artist’s stoke for a longtime on a piece of esthetic work. I fall deeply in love with whoever could canvass on colours! As the years gone by, I started to developed interest in the field of graphic design and eventually to motion graphic or anything to do with special graphic effects, you just name it I adore them all. I sincerely thank God that my 1st job after graduating from uni was a motion graphic designer cum video editor. I truthfully love that job. I remember very brightly that I prayed so hard to get the job via write-in-interview. I searched thoroughly each page of the classified section in the newspaper hoping to find a post on that. Well, one day I came across this small panel of advert regarding a promotion package for ‘wedding video shooting’. So I was assuming that why not give it a try to write-in although there wasn’t any vacancy offered, there’s no harm trying, isn’t it?
Thus, I told God that I wanted a job very badly after being jobless for abt 5 months after finishing my 3rd yr. I asked for a job that must have to do with my qualification. I din’t like to be in the printing company though. That is why I keep praying to Him that I must get a post in that company cos I preferred to involve in motion graphic or video editing rather than just flat-design all the time. I wanted somethg thrilling, not stagnant. With strong determination, after a few weeks of anticipating, finally I received calls from C.T asking me for walk-in-interview. Immediately I knew God has answered my prayer. Praise Him! I learnt lotsa things there and I’m very thankful to Nicholas and Wei Chung and my former boss Peter Eng for letting me gained as much experiences as I could. In C.T I had to be multi-task since it was an in-house production company. I was the only female employee there, so it’s rather tough for me in the beginning. Ranging from cleaning toilet & VHS tapes, cutting & spraying labels, alliance with customers to design and to video editing…all included just like ‘pau suah pau hai’.
Everthg I learnt abit here n there. Later I moved into more workload stuff on video conversion and editing. I developed passions for this job in spite of the low wages. I gotto learned how to produce VCD, interactive DVD, MTV, sound matching and create lotsa graphic effects on different wedding videos. I also gotto study various couple’s lifestyle and various tradition and culture plus pre-preparation b4 a couple could tie up the knot. I had seen all sorts of wedding dinner ceremonials.
There were times I was so touched while editing. The bridegroom after finishing his vow to the bride, his eyes looked watery, tears rolled down from the cheek. Both filled with love and intimacy. This kinda scenario mostly could be watched at church weddings only. I worked there for abt 4 months be4 I got into lecturing. It was an unforgotten knowledge.
